Your state entry route
A first-time guard normally enters as a registered apprentice security officer employed by a licensed agency. The agency is responsible for obtaining employee registration.
Complete at least 12 hours of qualifying classroom instruction or supervised field training within 30 days after registration, under the board's apprentice rules.
Join a licensed agency
Confirm eligibility, including age and education requirements, with the employer.
Submit registration
Complete the agency-supported application, fingerprints, background disclosures, and required documents.
Follow supervision rules
Until apprentice training requirements are fulfilled, work only under the required direct, on-site supervision.
Carry your credential
