Your state entry route
The usual unarmed security-officer route is the individual Class D license. Applicants must be at least 18 and meet eligibility requirements.
Complete at least 40 hours through an FDACS-licensed security school or training facility before applying. Employers may add assignment training later.
Choose a licensed school
Verify its Class DS status and that the course produces the required Class D training certificate.
Prepare your application
Gather training evidence, identification and eligibility documents, a photograph, and fingerprints using FDACS instructions.
Apply through FDACS
Use the official online, in-person, or mail process and pay the current fees.
Confirm work authorization
Check your application or license status and the permitted start date with FDACS and your employer.
Confirm your situation
Armed work requires additional Class G authorization.
General preparation supplements the required licensed-school course.
Prepare for your assessment route
Florida Class D applicants complete a 40-hour curriculum through a licensed Class DS school or training facility. Its assessments total 170 questions, require 128 correct answers and provide at least two hours of testing.
Online recognised training includes live instruction by Class DI instructors and attendance and identity checks. Confirm the school’s schedule, test arrangements and licensed delivery before enrolling.
