Your state entry route
Contract security officers need a Security Officer Training Certification Identification Card and employer registration. The ordinary unarmed route starts at age 18.
Complete the approved eight-hour initial course before applying. Ask your employer about assignment training and any later requirements.
Take approved training
Choose an instructor on DESPP's approved list and obtain the signed training section of form DPS-135-C.
Submit your card application
Follow DESPP instructions for the application, photograph, fingerprints, and current fees.
Complete employer registration
Have the security agency confirm your card and registration before assigning you to work.

An individual training card and the agency's employee registration are separate requirements.

Prepare for your assessment route
Connecticut’s initial security officer route requires an approved eight-hour course and at least 70% on a written examination. The curriculum includes first aid, search and seizure, use of force, criminal justice and public safety.
